"Teaching
the Caterpillar to Fly"
The Square Wheels® PowerPoint Toolkit on Managing and Leading Change
is Sub-titled, "Teaching the Caterpillar to Fly," and creates a memorable
and engaging look at the inevitability of the change process with the help of
insightful cartoons as metaphors. • Contains a wealth of ideas
and over 200 slides (consisting of factoids, one-liners, quotes,
illustrations, worksheets and various exercises) • Creates interactive
discussions focusing on how things need to work to become optimized and is
intended to generate ownership and build teamwork for change.
This toolkit originally evolved from presentations that Scott Simmerman,
creator of Square Wheels®, delivered to the US Census Bureau and to the US
Senate Staff and from there a series of subsequent one-day workshops on
facilitation skills.
One key part of this program is Scott's insightful metaphor of the
caterpillar and butterfly called "Teaching the Caterpillar to Fly."
This framework creates an easy to understand, engaging look at the
inevitability of the change process. It links to some crucial learning points
on leading change described, within, as "dis-unempowering" people as
well as important lessons on perspective, leadership and creativity.
Shown on the bottom of this page are examples of slides included in this
toolkit. In addition to the PowerPoint presentation and accompanying notes,
you'll also receive a wide range of supporting materials. There are worksheets
for participants, files covering general facilitation skills, facilitation tips
and other tools. Basically, you're getting a Big Bundle of possibilities
modifiable to your specific needs.
